(12 customer reviews)

Monogramming is a very technical area of embroidery and so for the first free part, we will be taking it right back to basics. During this complimentary class we will encourage you to start with things you are likely to already have at home. Therefore there are no kits required for this class or indeed the rest of the series, we will just make suggestions on how you can go about approaching this new way of working.

Class 1 covers a simple transfer method, back stitch and chain stitch lettering.

There are two more classes available in this series, each part taking the skills further and focusing on a particular approach to lettering and so can also be enjoyed as a stand alone or all together.

Equipment and Materials Needed:

  • Fabric
  • Large Eye Needle (Crewel/Chenille)
  • Pins
  • Pencil
  • Embroidery Thread (Cotton, Yarn, Ribbon)
  • Tissue Paper
  • Sewing Thread
  • Tweezer
  • Embroidery Hoop

Part 1 will start by working on chunky fabrics like towelling and knit, beginning with a simple back stitch approach to lettering and moving onto a characterful chain stitch monogram. We will talk you through how to form your lettering and apply your draft to your item for a clean finish. Once stitched, we will show you how to finish your pieces ready to be enjoyed.

Classes 2 and 3 of this series will build on your newly kindled interest in embroidered lettering, going into more classic styles as you build up skills. These are available to purchase from the London Embroidery school website. Although these classes are a series, each part will focus on a particular approach to lettering and so can also be enjoyed as a stand alone.

The only thing you need to decide now, is what you want to monogram on first?
