In this 4 part series we will be teaching you a range of traditional Goldwork techniques, focusing on the process and getting into the details of the wide variety of materials Goldwork has to offer.

This class is aimed at stitchers with some embroidery experience, but who may or may not have necessarily done Goldwork specifically before. We will discuss working on a multifaceted design starting by building good foundations with padding and raisings, adding smooth surfaces with appliqué, creating texture with chipping, couching and cutwork, before we work on finishing’s like plunging and Pearle Purl edging.

Part 1: Felt Pad, GFabric Appliqué & Chipping

Part 2: Couched Stitching with various Gold Thread

Part 3: Plunge in (finishing), Couched Pearle Purl & Cutwork with String Padding

Part 4: Cutwork with String Padding (gradual)

    This class has been well structured from the easiest parts to the more difficult techniques. I appreciated starting the cutwork with the easiest part, the small straight branch, then moving to the middle line which is mostly straight but tapered at the ends, and finally to the left edge of the pear which has more of a curve and so is the most difficult cutwork section. I saw an improvement in my cutwork as we progressed through these 3 sections. However, I found the couching in the pear leaves to be very difficult. You might want to save that for the end of the project when you have a bit more confidence.
