In this 3 part series we will be teaching you a range of traditional Goldwork techniques, focusing on the process and getting into the details of the wide variety of materials Goldwork has to offer.

This class is aimed at stitchers with some general embroidery experience, but who may or may not have necessarily done Goldwork specifically before. We will start in this first part by working on the foundation of felt padding, which will be covered by fabric applique and then working on the essential textural technique of Bright Check Chipping.

Part 2 is focusing on couched techniques, applying Passing, Japanese and Rococco threads. The ends of these will be finished off using the method of plunging and then we will be talking about the small amendments made when couching a Goldwork wire instead of a thread when we stitch down the pearle purl.

Part 3 will see us applying the raising technique of soft string bump, which we cover with Rough Purl Cutwork. Finally we will add a spray of our metal leaf sequins to finish off the tree in all its glory.

You can purchase our Deluxe and Mini level kits, alongside the class or separately, depending on the equipment you may already have at home. We also offer bundle packages which brings your choice of kit and all the classes into one transaction with a discount. Regardless of which kit you go for, you will also need to provide your own embroidery frame in which to tension your piece, a table clamp or seat frame (or slate frame) so that you can work with both hands. You may also want to have a heat dissolvable pen and thimble available too whilst working on this design.

When you have made your purchase, the link will be sent to your email and kits through the post. You can use the video as many times as you like, watch, rewatch, rewind and pause us as you please.

  1. A really nice kit and design, it was really fun to do. The videos were very clear. One thing that I couldn’t find in the videos was an explanation of stretching the purl purl, so I just guessed how much to stretch. Maybe I just missed that somehow?
