Last weekend, we hosted two classes for Penhaligon’s to celebrate the launch of their new sartorially inspired fragrance, ‘The Cut’.

For this we held Intro to Monogramming classes to honour the Savile Row roots of this scent with a technique that we often provide to the Savile Row tailors though our sister company Hawthorne & Heaney bespoke embroidery.

The day consisted of a little introduction to the scent and workshop from our Penhaligon’s rep, then we got stuck into the main part of the day with the embroidery.

The technique focuses on two main stitches, outline and satin stitch, working towards blending them together seamlessly to depict the letters.

We start by tracing the letters from the template onto tracing paper, then prick the tracing paper so that we can pass pounce powder through the draft onto the practise fabric, a technique of design transfer called Prick and Pounce.

With the practise done we mounted up the hankies which was to be the finished product for the day and repeated the prick and pounce process. Stitching onto the hankies is a much more carful and meticulous process but the classes did really well coming away with beautiful results for first time monogrammers.

If you missed out but would like to try monogramming for yourself, we have our online monogramming classes so you can join in with the fun from home. And of course be sure to give the deep but delicate notes of ‘The Cut’ a try next time you pass a Penhaligon’s counter.
